Assignments– Flexible, Individual, Group, Formative and Summative Tool (Dropbox, Resources, and Gradebook tools that can work together with Assignments or against each other)

This 1-hour workshop offers insight into the flexibility of these tool and the variety of uses it offers the online medium.

Some tools in T-square are adopted immediately because of the time and effort saved the instructor. However, these tools such as Assignments can end up complicating an instructor's life because of the very flexibility it offers, or because the instructor doesn't incorporate the talents of the TAs to make the assessment of students less problematic.

We will examine a variety of scenarios for using Assignments along with pitfalls and tips.

• Group aware assignments (done to save time and make downloading easy)

• Group aware assignments to cover multiple aspects of a topic or problem.

• Formative assignments that can be graded or ungraded.

• Grading assignments in multi-setion courses

• Using Dropbox, Resources, Gradebook, and Assignments together.

• Downloading student submissions without breaking your computer.

• Things to be wary of: large classes not divided into sections, using Auto Submit and trying to import into another course, changing assignment title does not change it in grade book, needing to edit grades in gradebook, and other issues, import from another site creates “Draft” which must be edited before students can see it and change the settings “Associate with existing Gradebook assignment” which will be checked to “Add Assignment to Gradebook” which will add the column to the gradebook in the new course...

Working with Large Classes and Classes with Sections in T-Square

Overview: Large classes 50-1000 students require more effort on the instructor's part. This workshop is designed to reduce that effort to a manageable task. T-Square has both section and group tools, often these are interchangeable, but at Tech the Section tool is integrated with Banner and can create and populate sections in classes that use multiple sections either to manage the number of students in one class or to separate them into different classes. Groups are not generated but created by the instructor often on an ad hoc basis.

This workshop will demonstrate the reasons for use one or the other or both to achieve your goals. In T-Square many tools are “section aware” meaning that they recognize the sections and/or groups within a course.

These tools include: Announcements, Resources, Assignments, and Grade book. Other T-Square tools will soon be adding this ability.

Working with Helpdesk Personnel in T-Square
