Feature Requests

T-Square is to a certain extent an ongoing development project, and development toward meeting the feature requests of faculty and students is part of the goal. We encourage all feature requests from our end users, and they are included here for consideration even if a decision has not yet been made to pursue them. If you'd like to make such a request, use the form linked to below:

Submit a New Feature Request

Feature requests are reviewed semesterly and then ranked by a Priorities Committee (see Governance), and development work with available resources is carried out based on these rankings.

Feature Requests to Date (January 2008):

Announcements

  1. Conditional release of Announcements by Date (done)

Assignments

  1. Store downloaded assignments by GT ID rather than name.
  2. Ability to assign something to a group (and also give grade to the group) rather than an individual only.
  3. Peer review of assignments.
  4. Better integration with gradebook, so that grade changes made in one tool are faithfully represented in the other, and vice-versa.
  5. Histogram of scores visible to students
  6. More intuitive representation of submission workflow; it's not easy to follow where things stand right now
  7. Some kind of event history for instructors for each submission, to know exactly what happened and when.

Calendar

  1. The ability to copy events between and across days.
  2. The ability to import Outlook calendars (rather than CSVs)
  3. More color labels for distinguishing event types and priority
  4. An "all day" event option
  5. Ability to create new event types
  6. Support repeating events in more flexible ways

Dropbox

  1. Ability to upload a single zip file that will distribute to all dropboxes as appropriate.
  2. Onscreen, dynamic notification for new submissions.
  3. Allow student folders to be sorted by section
  4. Allow student folders to be moved into a section directory
  5. Only allow TA access to student folders which are in their section

Email Archive

  1. Group awareness (email alias for each section/group in a site)
  2. Display all valid email addresses for sender

Email

  1. Performance improvements for large classes (underway)
  2. Make less vulnerable to spam flagging (underway)

Forums

  1. Group awareness
  2. Remove one unnecessary layer of forum-topic-thread hierarchy
  3. Better performance

General

  1. The ability to transfer an entire course structure (including custom tools) to the next semester's version of the same course.
  2. A notification or alert before a session times out.
  3. The ability to assign permissions to groups
  4. Equation editor with greek characters, etc.
  5. Server round-trip should not reload the page and reset the scrollbar
  6. Better support for maintaining public websites through T-Square

  7. Give Alumni access to T-Square for mentoring and community
    purposes.

  8. Allow public access to course archives or copies.

  9. Individual users have ability to set their starting page/tool
    in T-Square.

Gradebook

  1. Final grade calculation by formula
  2. Grade weighting by individual column
  3. View of Grade distribution/standard deviation; histogram for students
  4. Flexible column data types (alphanumeric, text for comments, etc.)
  5. Better integration with Assignments (e.g. edit assignment scores from gradebook)
  6. Include GTID as student identifier in roster view
  7. Column headings should not be sorted alphabetically
  8. Break apart gradebook listings (and export files) by section (one can currently access by section and export by section)
  9. An easier way to add large groups of TAs to their course assignments

  10. Ability to delete any column from the gradebook.

  11. Allow publication to Banner with outdated gradebook listing.
    Missing students are ignored.

  12. Have GTID# show in gradebook so integration with Scantron is
    easy. (see #6 above)

Inline Editor

  1. Add new fonts

Modules

  1. Better integration with Resources, so that uploads in Modules automatically get handled by Resources as well.
  2. Put "View, Author, Manage, Preferences" at bottom as well as at top of module pages. The navigation links like "Table of Contents, Previous, and Next" should also be at both bottom and top.

Navigation

  1. More consistent use of breadcrumb navigation for tool workflows
  2. Nested scrollbars should be eliminated
  3. Ability to personalize site tab labels

New tools/functionality

  1. Configurable administrative workflows for, e.g., submitting and reviewing proposals
  2. Site Statistics and Reporting (done)
  3. Tool for managing RPT process for faculty
  4. Shared desktop for remote collaboration

Resources

  5. Files uploaded via WebDAV should retain timestamp of file modification

  1. List more information for students such as major, year, and whether they're taking the class pass/fail.

Rwiki

  1. Ability to find bad links and orphaned pages
  2. Ability to find pages that haven't been updated since X date
  3. Cleaner search results - e.g. columns w/ summaries
  4. Ability to seed pages with search answers

Section Info

  1. Show members of a group in the Section Info tool

Site Info

  1. Easier ways to add site participants (i.e. if you don't know GT Account names)
  2. Withdrawn students should be grayed out, though remain in the participant list for grading purposes (i.e. to assign them a 'W')

Skins

  1. Ability to add other skins for particular schools or courses
  2. Ability for end-users to upload and use their own skins
  3. Reduce padding around frame borders to maximize tool real estate
  4. Reduce size of banner graphic
